The Berkshire Renegades are an American Football team currently competing in the Central and South Conference of British American Football League (BAFL) Division 1. First formed in 1985, they competed in the United Kingdom American Football Association, the Budweiser League, the Combined Gridiron League and the British National Gridron League before folding in 1990. They were reformed in 2005 and entered the BAFL the following year, where they still compete today. In addition to senior kitted football, the Renegades are affiliated with local Youth Football Organisation who organise contact football for children aged 16 and above in the Berkshire area.
The team is located at University of Reading, Bulmershe Campus in Reading for practice and games. Please click Find Us for full directions to our home venues. The season kicks off on the first Sunday in May and the full details are located on the homepage.
Whether you have watched the NFL, college football on TV, you can remember watching Blitz Saturday Mornings on Channel 4 or have never even seen a game before, IT DOES NOT MATTER. We will teach you everything you need to know to play football, from how to stand, how to catch, how to throw and how to hit. If you have never watched a game, but are interested, come to a training session or a game. We will make you feel welcome and will do our best to explain what is going on. If you're still interested after that, we'll get you on board!
Our kit consists of the following items:
Helmet (Scarlet) - with white face cage
Football pants (Black)
Gum shield/Mouth Guard
If your coming to a training session for the first time, wear a T-shirt, track suit bottoms or shorts and trainers or football/rugby boots. MOST ESPECIALLY PURCHASE AND BRING A MOUTH GUARD/GUM SHIELD AND FIT IT FOR YOURSELF. You will need this at every training session!
Although the Renegades don't have much equipment, we can temporarily loan a limited number of players some equipment, however, it is expected that you are responsible for the purchase of your own equipment. We have details of where you are able to purchase your own equipment from for a reduced price due to links with the club. Not having equipment doesn't mean that you won't be able to practice, however, you may not be able to participate in all drills.
It doesn't matter how big, small, round, square, triangular shaped you are, there is always a place on an American Football team for someone of any build. If you don't believe us come to a training session and see the variety of people that play for us.
That's fine, we always need help with Stats, Water, First Aid, Chain Crew, Ball Boys, Game organisation, Photography, Press Reports and many more tasks! Contact Us to find out if there's anything you can do.
