Renegades Find Path Past Milton Keynes

Reading 33 - 3 Milton Keynes

Reading Renegades started their 2008 campaign with a confident 33-3 victory over Milton Keynes Pathfinders on Sunday.

Milton Keynes received the opening kick-off, with running back Leighton Carneaie moving the ball well on the ground. The Renegades defense dug in at midfield though, and the Pathfinders punted the ball away.

Reading put together a 17 play, 79 yard drive, with the running back combination of Nick Coventry and Ian Lakin breaking some lengthy runs, before Lakin found his way into the endzone from 10 yards out. Neal Kent’s PAT kick was good, and Reading had the lead, 7-0.

The Renegades defense struck quickly in the ensuing Pathfinders’ drive, with an interception of quarterback Scott Gallon by defensive back Duncan Scott at midfield. The Renegades couldn’t do anything with the ball though, and went three-and-out. The Pathfinders then crafted a 15 play drive, moving the ball into the Renegades red-zone, before veteran linebacker Guy Robbins sacked Gallon for a 7 yard loss on third down. Milton Keynes settled for a field goal, Benjamin Williams slotting the ball through the posts for a 38 yard kick to close the score to 7-3.

The Renegades struck back immediately, quarterback Paul Waddington connecting with Jim White for a 43-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the next drive. Kent’s PAT kick was just wide left, and it was 13-3 to Reading at the half.

Reading extended their lead late in the third quarter, with Coventry slicing over the line from 2 yards out. Kent’s PAT was good, and the scoreboard now read 20-3. The Renegades would score twice in the fourth quarter, Waddington finding Carl Hagan for a pin-point accurate 29 yard touchdown pass, and then following a Neal Kent interception White went in again at the end of a 22 yard Waddington pass for his second score of the day. Kent converted one of the scores, Reading winning 33-3.
